Chevening Scholarships

Chevening Scholarships are a prestigious UK Government-funded program designed for international students who wish to pursue a one-year master’s degree in the UK. This scholarship aims to develop future global leaders by providing the opportunity to study in the UK, build professional networks, and make a positive impact in their home countries upon return.


Eligibility criteria

   To qualify for a Chevening Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

● Citizenship: Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country (over 140 countries are included, primarily from developing regions).

● Return Requirement: Agree to return to their home country for at least two years after completing their studies.

● Academic Requirements: Hold an undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK 2:1 (upper second-class honors).

● Work Experience: Have a minimum of two years (2,800 hours) of work experience.

● University Admission: Secure an unconditional offer from a UK university for a one-year master’s degree by the time they submit their Chevening application.


What does the scholarship cover?

The Chevening Scholarship provides comprehensive financial support covering:

● Tuition Fees: Full coverage of the master’s degree tuition fees. Tuition Fees: The scholarship covers full tuition fees for most courses. However, for MBA programs, there's a cap of £22,000, meaning you may need to cover any excess fees yourself.

● Travel Costs: Payment for economy-class travel to and from the UK.

● Visa Fees: Coverage of visa application fees.

● Living Allowance: A monthly stipend to cover accommodation and living expenses. The amount is higher for students studying in London.

● Event Travel Allowance: Additional funding for travel to mandatory Chevening events, usually held in London.

The total value of the scholarship typically amounts to around £30,000, although this may vary based on individual circumstances and course requirements.


How to Apply?

1. Application Form: Apply through the Chevening online application system on the Chevening website specific to your country.

2. Essays: Complete short essay questions (500 words each) covering topics such as leadership, networking, and the reasons for choosing your master’s courses.

3. Interviews: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview at the nearest British embassy or high commission between March and May. The interview will cover your motivations, leadership potential, and future plans.

4. Final Decision: Successful applicants will be notified in June.


Course Eligibility

● Type of Course: The scholarship covers full-time, one-year taught master’s degrees. It does not support part-time courses, distance learning, PhDs, or research-focused master’s programs.

● Course Selection: You need to select three eligible master’s courses. Ensure that these courses align with your career objectives, as they may be discussed during your interview.

Applications usually open in August and close in November for programs starting the following year.
